OUR UNITS

THE DIRECTORS AND HEADS OF SPECIAL UNITS

The normal run of public service staff of the Board is split into nine (9) departments and three (3) special units, namely:

DEPARTMENT
ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT
This department is in turn made up by:
  • Promotions Unit: In charge of the regulated advancement of staff by way of promotions, conversions, etc.
  • Establishment Unit: In charge of service matters like all kinds of leave, discipline, notifications and custody of Government circular and directives, etc.
  • Transfer Unit: In charge of all kinds of transfers and postings within the service.
  • Pensions Unit: In charge of preparation of retirement calendars, processing and actual implementation of retirements
DEPARTMENT
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
This is the department in charge of all financial dealings of the Board. It consist of the following units:
  • Expenditure Unit
  • Payroll Unit
  • LGEA Accounts Unit
  • JSS Accounts Unit
  • Reconciliations Unit, and the
  • Cash Office.
DEPARTMENT
PLANNING, RESEARCH AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT
This department is made up of the following units:
  • Physical Planning Unit: In charge of planning of projects and budgets implementation
  • Research and Publications Unit
  • Procurements Unit
  • Strategic Planning Unit
  • Statistics and Records Unit
  • ICT Unit
DEPARTMENT
SOCIAL MOBILIZATION DEPARTMENT
This department is constituted as follows:
  • Mobilization and Enlightenment Unit
  • HIV/AIDS Unit
  • School-Based Management Committees Unit that oversights all school-based management committees in respective primary and junior secondary schools in Abia State.

QUALITY ASSURANCE DEPARTMENT
This department comprises:
  • Supervision Unit: In charge of supervision of all primary and junior secondary schools.
  • Curriculum Unit: In charge of curriculum planning, development and distribution to primary and junior secondary schools in Abia State.
  • Investigation Unit: This unit oversights and monitors schools to ensure quality teaching and learning. It also investigates all matters that may undermine qualitative teaching and learning.
  • Debate and Quiz Unit
  • Library Unit
  • Early Child Care Development Education Unit that is in charge of nurseries and the kindergarten.

SCIENCE, VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

DEPARTMENT
EDUCATION SERVICES DEPARTMENT
Made up of:
  • UNICEF Unit
  • Special Education Unit that caters to the needs of our challenged children.
  • Nomadic Education Unit
DEPARTMENT
MANPOWER, DEVELOPMENT & TRAINING (MPDT)
  • Coordinates capacity building for tutorial and non-tutorial staff.
  • Recruits teachers under the Federal Teachers’ Scheme.
  • Recommends and coordinates staff for computer training at the office of the Head of Service in the State.
DEPARTMENT
JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL DEPARTMENT
That is in charge of Junior Secondary School (JSS) matters.
  • Supervise and monitor teaching and learning in all Junior Secondary Schools.
  • Organize, manage education and academic programmes such as essay, mathematics and sports competitions.
  • Investigate matters of professional misconduct in Junior Secondary Schools.
  • Set an operational standard for principals and staff of junior Secondary Schools.
  • Collect and collate progress report on students, teachers and principals.
  • Appoint and transfer principals, teachers and non teaching staff of Junior Secondary School.
  • Collect and present statistical data on Junior Secondary Schools.
DEPARTMENT
THE SPECIAL UNITS
  • The Legal Unit, Internal Audit and Public Relations Unit are compliance oversight and image management Units inset within the Executive Chairman’s office.
